Teaching Dance to Plants is based on works by Joseph Beuys and John Baldessari. In 1972, Baldessari created Teaching a Plant the Alphabet as a reaction on Beuys’ Wie man dem toten Hasen die Bilder erklärt (1965). In 2020, the world is threatened by COVID-19, and we need to deconstruct the relationship between human society and the natural environment. 

In this work, I react to Tatsumi Hijikata, the founder of a genre of dance performance art called “Butoh,” as my attempt focuses on creating movement from the natural environment.

『Teaching Dance to Plants』は、ヨーゼフ・ボイスとジョン・バルデッサリの作品から着想を得ています。1972年、バルデッサリは、ボイスの『Wie man dem toten Hasen die Bilder erklärt』（1965年）への反応として、『Teaching a Plant the Alphabet』を制作した。2020年、全世界でCOVID-19の脅威にさらされている中で、人間社会と自然環境の関係を再構築する。 

本作では、自然環境から動きを生み出すことに焦点を当てた試みを行うために「舞踏」というジャンルの創始者である土方巽に呼応する。
